It is easy to work on people’s branding including resumes and LinkedIn profiles, but finding the core issue is not as simple. The magic happened at Outcome Coaching when, through career coaching, we unlocked these 5 keys to discover Tony’s career direction.

Self-assessment

The only way to work out what you want to do and how, is to have a proper understanding of yourself. Some of the tools we use to source this information at Outcome Coaching includes: Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Clifton Strengths Finder, Career Leader and Strengths Profile. What is more important than the output from these tools is how the information is analysed and discussed during coaching. That’s where the power of years of accumulated coaching experience comes into play.

Life Goals

Only when we have a sense of what is truly important in our lives, can we make wise career choices. In our sessions we clearly define for our clients what you want out of life by exploring a combination of detailed and difficult questions combined with searching exercises. This enabled the identification and clarification of Tony’s life goals.

Career Values

If we do what we believe is important and worthwhile, we are likely to increase our motivation and satisfaction. The greater the correlation between our work and career values, the more likely we are to enjoy our work. To understand Tony’s career values, we clarified what he wanted most in a career, measured the intensity of his feelings about these factors and uncovered career choices Tony would be glad he made on reflection.

Career Anchor/s

Career anchors are one or two factors a person would not give up (if forced to make a choice) when accepting a career option. Being aware of your career anchor/s enables planning and good decision making. Examples of career anchors include work life balance, pure challenge and service & dedication to a cause. Through our sessions we were able to discover Tony’s career anchors.

Motivated skills

These are transferable skills that you most enjoy using and are good at. Since these skills can be used in multiple environments and contexts, they enable a smooth career change. This was the final step to help Tony to clarify his career direction.
